Scarborough Rapid Play 2026

The Scarborough Rapid Play Chess Event was again held on the 20 June 2026.This was the third event and the number of entries was slightly down on previous years.
Five players from the Chess Club entered.

The Open competition was particularly strong with Grandmaster Daniel Gormally and three other 2000 plus rated players. It was jointly won by Daniel Gormally and Andrei Ciuravin who scored five and a half out of six. Paul Hutchinson of Scarborough came closest to beating Daniel Gormally but lost on time.

The Under 1700 was very competitive with a mix of experienced players and ambitious younger players. The best performance by Scarborough players was by Colin Weller and Philip Roe who both finished on four out of six having had to play each other in round 4. They shared fourth place in the event which was won by Jasper Kell and Stuart Sharp on five pints out of six.”

Doug Rawlinson Trophy 2025 - Result

The Scarborough Chess Club started the new chess year with the traditional Doug Rawlinson Rapid Play event on the 1st September 2025. The event was won by Paul Hutchinson with four and a half points out of five. Colin Weller and Harry Cammish came joint second with three and a half points out of five. Harry Cammish won the best performance prize.

Doug Rawlinson Trophy 2025

The Scarborough Chess Club will start the new chess year with the traditional Doug Rawlinson Rapid Play event on the 1st September 2025. This will be a five round event with each player having 15 minutes for each of the games. The event will look to start at 7.30 pm promptly. Players do not need to be members of the club to play in the event.
